What does WayUp do?
WayUp was created to help early-career candidates discover and be discovered by employers for paid internships and entry level roles. The job board focuses on new grad through around 3 years of experience. Users upload their resume to their profile. Then they add their experiences, some fun facts about themselves, and the types of jobs they want. They then get access to a job board that shows open positions, filtered for prerequisites that match. Users can apply with 1 click and employers can invite users to apply for specific positions as well.
There is a wide range of companies that use the platform to connect with potential employees. Everything from large tech companies, like Google and Dell, to McDonalds and the local pizza shop can be found.
Who is WayUp for?
Since the positions offered on the app are mainly internships and new grad, WayUp is targeted towards students and recent grads. People who are interested in breaking into a new career path might also benefit from the early career positions on the app.
What does WayUp cost? How much work is involved?
For candidates, WayUp is free. They are paid by the companies that work with them. In terms of setup, it is similar to LinkedIn and other job boards. Users set up their profiles with their resume, portfolio, past experiences, hobbies, and side-gigs to give a holistic view to potential employers. Once this is done, they can start applying to jobs that match. When companies set up the opportunities, they mark what is non-negotiable. That way, candidates should only be able to see positions for which they are qualified.
Ratings and reviews
There are not a lot of reviews of WayUp online. On their website, they have positive reviews from students at top schools who say that it showed them opportunities they wouldn’t have otherwise seen or known they were interested in. They also offer campus rep positions for users on college campuses. These students refer other students and pitch the platform for groups that could be interested in downloading the app. This is likely part of why their user base is so large. As, of March 2017, they had over 3.5 million users.
Alternatives to WayUp
Handshake is probably the most well known alternative to WayUp. That’s because it is also a college student-focused, campus-connected job search app. Similarly, students create a profile and are connected with pre-filtered job opportunities. Both are free for candidates. There is also Huttle Jobs, which is a daily list of entry-level new jobs and internships for college students and recent graduates.
How does WayUp compare to Pathrise?
WayUp connects college students and recent grads with early-career positions, making it easier for them to see what openings are out there, as long as those companies are paying WayUp for access to their users. While they have some career resources on their website, they are mainly a job board that allows easier access between employer and candidate.
